"Life is a book and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read." - Cassandra Clare (Clockwork Princess)

Hello, my name is Jessica Rakushin. I am a twenty-one-year old Ohioan, who has a passion for literature. I am currently enrolled at the University of Kentucky and will be graduating with my Master's Degree in Information and Library Science in Spring of 2022.
I was very young when I discovered how beautiful literature was. It opened a realm of imagination I had never been able to tap into before. Fantasy realms filled with fictional gods and mythical creatures, and young relatable characters.
From there my adoration for literature has continued to expand. I have decided to dedicate my life to encouraging others to gain an understanding that reading can not only be informative, but also open up gateways of imagination. Additionally, I have developed a great enthusiasm for the countries of Japan, Korea, and China. This appreciation has led me to want to fight to end stigmas surrounding these East Asian countries.

2017-2020
Miami University (MU)
Oxford, Ohio
Graduated with a bachelor of arts degree with honors (Cum Laude) in American Studies.
During my time at Miami University, I spent time on both the regional campuses and the main campus. While on the Hamilton campus from 2018-2019, I was a study leader for one of the student-led groups, where I had multiple opportunities to research, develop, and present topical presentations for educational study groups.
I would probably say that my time as the Secretary of the Japanese Culture and Language Club (JCLC) on Oxford's campus in 2019-2020 was one of the best experiences I had. During my time as secretary, I sent emails, attended club meetings, and helped develop the program's itinerary. I also attended Student Engagement and Leadership workshops built around social media and leadership improvement tips.
